Field Trip Policy Reminder

With the new season upon us, we want to encourage members to take advantage of the field trips that are researched and made available during the course of the season. These provide excellent opportunities to interact with your fellow photographers and to make some top caliber images. We hope that the "old hands" will take an active part in mentoring newer workers in the photographic process. We also need to remind all members that while our Field Trip Leaders and other volunteers identify locations for photography and attempt to help with logistics, neither they nor the Greater Lynn Photographic Association has any control over travel to or from a location or the conditions encountered at it. All participation in field trip activities is voluntary on the part of the member and any minor member they may bring. Neither GLPA nor the Field Trip Leaders or volunteers assume any
liability for any accidents or other situations which may occur as a result of a member's participation in a field trip.

Upcoming Formal Field Trips

Various formal field trips are scheduled throughout the year to places in New England. Sign-ups are necessary to get an idea of how many are attending. Carpooling is generally available which is a great way to get to know other members of the club and to discuss photographic ideas and techniques while travelling to the venue. Sign ups are easy: at the club or thru the online form listed in the left column.

Informal Field Trip MeetUp Groups. We will continue to have informal field trips - MeetUp Groups - for spontaneous unorganized field trips. There will be a signup sheet for email notifications on the bulletin board across from the treasurer's desk at the club. Then when a MeetUp is planned (see below), an email will go out from Marilyn Cloran (macloran@comcast.net) to the people who have signed up to be notified. If you cannot make it to the club to put your name on the signup sheet, please email Marilyn at the above address.

Any person who wants to plan a MeetUp will send Marilyn Cloran the meet up information with date, time and specific location at which the group will meet. They may also want to include any specific information regarding equipment needs etc. Then Marilyn will send that information out to the MeetUp group email list. Interested participants will go to the venue on their own and meet at the location and time indicated.

Formal Field Trip News and General Information
September 01, 2025

GLPA member Tomas Sanchez is our Formal Field Trip Chairman. Formal Field Trips would meet at the club to car pool, go to the venue and after shooting, enjoy a meal after. Participants must sign up in advance to attend. Tom and his assistant, Ken Jordon normally help the attendees with shooting questions along with where to shoot at the venue.

Volunteers from our membership are also welcome to suggest and lead a formal field trip throughout the year. It doesn't have to be anyplace fancy – just someplace you enjoyed shooting or an event you know is happening. If you are interested in leading a trip, e-mail Tom sanchezte@verizon.net and discuss your ideas.

Formal Field Trips would be listed on this page and require a sign up by the attendees. Informal trips such as the MeetUps are not listed here and attendees on the interested MeetUp list will receive an email the day before or a few hours before and then go to the venue on their own to MeetUp and photograph. Normally Formal Fields Trips would be listed chronologically on the page and we would add the info to the listing as the time got nearer to the trip. You would then look below for specific information on any of the trips as it is posted. Other trip information would be posted as we had volunteers to lead them.

Formal Field trips are a way for you to meet your fellow member photo enthusiasts in the club. Trips range from day time all day trips to one to two hour sunset trips. They are usually followed by a late breakfast, lunch or dinner stop with the group depending on the time of the trip. Members meet at the camera club to car pool, as it's more fun to ride with a few other club members while giving you an opportunity to visit. Of course you are always welcome to drive to the destination on your own and meet the group there.

For all trips you should have good walking shoes, light jacket and cash to cover your meal and your share of gas, tolls and or park entry fees with your car pool driver. Equipment needs will be listed on the website or in the emails for the trip. Normally it a short to medium telephoto lens and a tripod.

You should sign up for all Formal Field Trips on this field trip page of the website using the online sign up in the left side column. Then we have your name and contact info should the trip be canceled.

Hope you will be able to attend some of the scheduled trips once they are planned and posted.

Field Trip-Spring Nature Field Trip-Trip Leaders- Ken Jordan, MNEC & Christine Shapiro
May 09, 2026

This will be a trip to Horn Pond in Woburn. It will also be a combination field trip with a few members of CamNats who had already planned a field trip to Horn Pond on the same day and since many of the GLPA members are also CamNats members we decided to make it a combo trip of the 2 organizations. As this is the day of the CanNats meeting at the club, the GLPA members will also return to the club to have lunch there. Both groups will meet in the GLPA parking lot at 6:30am or you can drive directly to Horn Pond on your own. Ken Jordan will be meeting the GLPA members in the GLPA parking lot at 6:30 am with a departure time of 6:45 am sharp. Christine Shapiro will meet any members who drive directly to Horn Pond there at 7am. Both groups will shoot until 11:15 am and then leave to return to the club for lunch at noon.

Lunch will be a variety of sandwiches, chips, drinks and desert for the very low cost of $5 per person -the cost of the lunch is being subsidized by CamNats. After the lunch, GLPA members are invited to stay for the CamNats meeting. There will be a brief business meeting and then the showing of nature images by CamNats members. Each CamNat member who wishes, brings 8 images and discusses why, when and where they were taken or interesting nature story that goes with the images. Much like what is done at Nature Group at the club. We are normally done by 3pm. You do not have to stay for the meeting, you can leave after lunch, or you can stay for an hour and then leave-it’s up to you.

Here is a brief write up on what is at Horn Pond and some links to go to: Horn Pond is a beautiful destination for nature, scenic, and people photography. We will be visiting during a prime for photographing migrating and nesting birds, pond and marsh wildlife, and the trees and wildflowers that will be bursting forth in May. People will be out walking, running, fishing, and relaxing. There are both paved and woodland trails, and the pond, as well as the feeder streams and “lagoon” areas are easily accessible. Links to maps of the area are provided below, which give a general layout, trail network, and highlighted sites around the pond. In addition to the natural areas and surrounding woodland, the Woburn Community Gardens are adjacent to the recreation area property, accessible via short trails. The gardens may also provide some good photo opportunities as they tend to be planted with a variety of flowers and plants that attract insect pollinators and birds. See below for a few images taken by Christine Shapiro of what you may find and that were taken there.

Those choosing to meet at Horn Pond should park at the lot or on the street at the Horn Pond Sturgis Street Boat Launch/Ice House Park area. This spot is centrally located to most of the trails and pond/lagoon areas. Since Horn Pond is a very popular destination on weekends, we encourage attendees to be on time to enjoy as much of the softer lighting and quieter moments as possible. We will explore and shoot from 7am until 11:15am when both groups will leave Horn Pond to return to Greater Lynn for lunch at noon.

You must now do 2 things:
1. Sign up to attend so Ken has an idea of who and how many, along with a phone number should inclement weather make us have to cancel the trip. Please sign up in the left side column-see sign up orange link.
2. Please email Chris Germain, she needs to put the food count in, so we need your name on the list ASAP, (deadline to sign up will be Wednesday May 6, 2026. Do not wait until the last minute. Email Chris germain9898@gmail.com or call and leave a message-781-249-4026 if attending and put CamNats in the subject line, so we can have a correct count for the food enough tables set up to eat on. Please see Susan Mosser on your arrival to pay for the meal at the treasurer’s desk.

Field Trip-Whale Watch-Trip Leader Amy Musinsky, MNEC
May 16, 2026
9:30 AM

This will be a fun day out to sea to hopefully see whales and get some great photography while being with friends.

Amy Musinsky your field trip leader, has given the GLPA count and reservation to Seven Sea’s Whale Watch out of Gloucester. We were unable to get a discount as many members are using their free ticket they received last year as they did not see any whales. If you still want to go and have not signed up, you can still do so directly by going to Seven Seas website and registering directly with them and still be a part of the GLPA group but making the reservation & payment on your own. The standard rate at the current time is 70.55 per person. The plan will be to meet at the dock in Gloucester at 9:30am as the boat loads at 10am. If transportation is an issue please contact me and we can see that can be arranged. If you have any questions, please contact Amy at amusins@gmail.com or see her at the club.

Do not sign up in the left side column of this page. If you now wish to attend you must book on your own and notify Amy at the above email you have done so and will be joining the GLPA group at the Gloucester dock.

Evening Exposure-Light Painting- Patrick Brosnan, MNEC- Coordinator
June 01, 2026
7 PM

Thank you to Patrick Brosnan, MNEC who has volunteered to do a light painting field trip at the club with the assistance of Linda Coviello, MNEC and Dana Patch, MNEC. Space maybe limited so if interested sign up now. This is for members only.

Ready to try something a little different at the camera club.
Let’s dim the lights, slow things down, and have some fun with light painting. This relaxed, hands-on group session is all about experimenting- think glowing orbs, colorful trails, and creative patterns made right in front of your lens. We’ll have a variety of light painting tools and toys to play with, and plenty of time to share ideas, swap tips, and enjoy the process together.
No pressure, no perfection—just curiosity, creativity and a bit of magic in the dark.
Whether you’re new to light painting or have tried it before, you will come away with some unique images and a few tricks up your sleeve.
Bring your camera, tripod, and your sense of adventure. Let’s light up the night—one frame at a time.

Please sign up in the orange link in the left side column of this page. Please ignore the info lines regarding driver or passenger as there is no driving involved with this trip, you only have to drive to the club on Monday night as you normally would. Again, space may be limited, so sign up now if interested and you are sure you can attend. We will do a waiting list if the sign-up numbers get too large-First Sign Up First Attend. Do not take up a space, if not sure you can be there. If for some reason you do sign up and find you cannot be there, notify Susan Mosser ASAP s.jmosser@comcast.net so we can go to the waiting list for the next interested member.

This will be something new we are trying-sign up and join us for a fun night with your fellow GLPA members. If you have any questions on the night, please email Patrick at pbrosnanphoto@yahoo.com
